A Historical Narrative of the Lineage
From Babalgaon to Ghoti — spanning over a thousand years of land ownership, defiance, and migration across South Maharashtra.
The Foundations at Babalgaon
Shaka 426 · ~504 AD
The foundational roots of the family trace back to Shaka 426 (approximately 504 AD) under the progenitor, Sadoji. The family established a significant agrarian presence in Babalgaon, near the pilgrimage hub of Pandharpur, managing a sizeable estate encompassing 142 acres. This ancestral seat was passed down through Sadoji's son Appaji, and then to his grandson Devji.
Tax Defiance and the Clash with the Sultanate
By the generation of Devji's four sons — Krishnaji, Tukoji, Lakhuji, and Gopalji — the region was under the Deccan Sultanates, referenced in family memory through Baba Adam and Adil Shah Badshah.
The Chavadi Phala Dispute
The village land tax Chavadi Phala remained unpaid for 24 consecutive years. A royal decree was issued to capture the brothers. Refusing to submit, Krishnaji and his brothers engaged in a violent skirmish against state soldiers — setting off the great migration.
The Era of Migration and Resettlement
Fearing retribution, the brothers abandoned their ancestral 142 acres and began a generational journey across South Maharashtra — seeking safety, land, and stability.
